Frame (Chassis) Changes

The following is a summary of changes to the Model T Frame (Chassis). The data on this page was compiled by the Model T Ford Club International Inc. No pictures are available at this time, but we hope to be able to add these in the future.

Paint Color: The Chassis was painted body color on the early cars until sometime in 1910 when the color was changed to black.

Motor Numbers: ForumPost ?read=64 From Trent Boggess, posted Tues., 8/5/1997 (now in archive) Regarding Motor Numbers stamped on Frames: In accession 94, box 169 at the Research Center of the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village is a departmental communication dated Sept. 8, 1926 which reads: "Motor number was first placed on frame side member right hand on Dec. 12, 1925. Motor no. 12,861,044. Information obtained from Mr. Burns, Final Assembly, Highland Park."

These numbers can frequently be found just behind the firewall on the right side member on 1926-27 cars. However, not all cars built after Dec. 12, 1925 have them. Perhaps this was done only at the Highland Park plant, or it may have been adopted at other Ford assembly plants on various times after Dec., 1925. END OF FORUM NOTE
