It is quiet easy to establish the date of manufacture of most Model T Ford Engine Blocks, since detailed production information was kept by the Ford Motor Company and is widely available from many sources today (See the Cars Page On this site for this information).

Since the purpose of these pages is to assist you in finding the correct part for your year car, a list of detail changes won't be listed on this page (since you can easily ID your engine by number). However, some general notes are in order:

• Early (1909 - 1910) engines have open, exposed valves
• Early 1909 Engine Numbers are located between the the two center exhaust ports
• Later 1909 and 1910 Engine Numbers are located on the lower right front behind the timing gear housing.
• Early 1912 blocks have the engine number located behind the water inlet. Later blocks have the number above the water inlet
• In 1922, the casting was modified to allow for a single valve cover.
• 1926 and later Engines have an extra boss at the rear to allow for an additional transmission bolt.
• 1927 Engines do not have a hole (for the Throttle rod) between the two center cylinders, due to a change to the vaporizer carburetor (the rod goes over the engine on these cars)
• Replacement engines were manufactured by the Ford Motor Company until August 4, 1941.
