Set to just start to open points when #1 cylinder is at top of compression stroke and spark lever is all the way up. Find top of compression stroke by removing #1 spark plug, crank engine over until air starts to escape from spark plug hole, (stick a finger in the plug hole if need be), then sloooowly crank engine while using a thin wire or long, skinny screwdriver to determine when piston reaches top of stroke. Stop, this is the spot where you'll have the rotor lossened up so you can turn it in the direction of travel. Slowly rotate it until it is near a spark plug terminal inside the cap, watch the points, they should just start to break when spark lever is at full retard position, (all the way up). Stop, tighten screw under rotor, recheck rotor position. Now, using that plug terminal in the cap to which the rotor was adjacent as #1 plug wire, insert the other three plug wires in firing order, (1, 2, 4, 3) in the direction of rotor travel, that's it, all done. Replace #1 plug and connect plug wire and fire 'er up.
